Kolkata: After a surprise visit to RG Kar Medical College on Saturday, state health minister Sharadwat Mukherjee along with local MLA and minister of state information cultural affairs and trourism Purnima Chakraborty made a surprise inspection of Mayo Hospital on Tuesday. The over 200-year-old health facility has been an annexe of Medical College Hospital Kolkata (MCHK) since 2018.Alleging misuse of this health facility, Mukherjee said, “We came to know that a hostel facility was provided to nine medical students here. When we came for inspection, none of them could be traced. We asked the hospital MSVP and assistant super as to how a hostel facility came up here but we could not get any satisfactory reply. This needs to be probed.”Some MCHK officials, including principal Indranil Biswas, allegedly failed to reply when the health minister asked why some new equipmentwas lying unused.“I inspected Mayo Hospital and examined the overall situation of the hospital’s infrastructure, cleanliness, and patient services. The impression of long-standing neglect and an unhealthy work culture is evident in various areas of the hospita,” Mukherjee posted on social media.
