Bhubaneswar: Union home minister Amit Shah will inaugurate an exhibition showcasing the state police’s achievements in implementing three landmark criminal laws — the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam (BSA) – during his visit to Bhubaneswar on Friday.These laws, which came into force on July 1, 2024, replaced the colonial-era Indian Penal Code (IPC), Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC), and the Indian Evidence Act (IEA).“At the exhibition, we will highlight how the reforms promote scientific and technology-driven investigations, ensuring watertight cases that leave little room for offenders to exploit loopholes,” DGP Y B Khurania said.Open to the public from March 7 to 10, the exhibition aims to make the modernized legal framework accessible to citizens. “These reforms mark a decisive shift from a colonial punitive system to a justice-oriented one. They prioritize victims’ rights and dignity, mandate timely investigations and trials and embed the principle that justice delayed is justice denied into the legal structure,” Khurania added.The DGP emphasized that by leveraging forensic science, advanced technology and citizens’ participation, Odisha police is committed to delivering swift and fair justice.The exhibition features 10 interactive stalls guiding visitors through the judicial process — from crime scene to court. Highlights include e-sakshya for digital evidence management, national automated fingerprint identification system for biometric verification, mobile forensic units for on-site scientific investigations and mandatory forensic examinations for serious crimes.In addition, the exhibition will spotlight the achievements of specialized units, including the Special Operations Group and its role in anti-Maoist operations.
