Lucknow: Shaan-e-Azeem and Golden Oaks stole the spotlight, winning the races in the Indian-bred and Thoroughbred categories respectively at the Army Commander’s Cup, held at the Race Course and Turf Club on Sunday.Under clear skies and pleasant weather, families, seasoned punters and first-time visitors filled the stands early in the afternoon, eager to witness the thrilling contests on the turf.

The lush green track was in excellent condition, adding to the excitement as horses thundered past the cheering crowd. Betting counters saw brisk activity, while food stalls and refreshment areas were abuzz with chatter. Many attendees were dressed in their finest outfits, adding a touch of glamour to the sporting spectacle.“The energy here is amazing. Every race keeps you on the edge of your seat,” said a regular visitor, Arun Malhotra.In the Indian-bred category, first position was secured by Shaan-e-Azeem, owned by JN Mathur and ridden by Mayank Kori, winning a cash prize of Rs 5,000. Aloha secured second position. Owned by Amar Habibulah and ridden by Monu, the horse won Rs 3,000. Spiritual Force finished third. Owned by Shabab Abbas Naqvi and ridden by Vinod Singh, it won Rs 2,000.In the Thoroughbred category, Golden Oaks bagged first position. Owned by Mohd Abdullah and ridden by Deepak, the horse won Rs 10,000. Angel In My Heart secured second position. Owned by JN Mathur and ridden by Harsh, it won Rs 7,000. Chopin finished third. Owned by Amar Habibullah and ridden by Monu, the horse won Rs 4,000.The title of best hat (male) was won by Sufiyan Siddiqui, while Ritu Pundir won best hat (female). Jyotsna Habibullah was adjudged best dressed (female).
