Ahmedabad: A senior clerk with the State Goods and Services Tax department allegedly attempted suicide at his office on Ashram Road on Saturday, police said. He was taken to the hospital after he began vomiting at work and remains unconscious, though his condition is stable, police said.Navrangpura police inspector S R Bava said doctors suspected he had ingested a poisonous substance. Police have registered a case of accidental death. The reason behind the alleged suicide attempt is not yet known. Police said senior officers were sent to the SGST office to check whether the employee had left behind a note or any other evidence. Investigators are examining all possible angles, including workplace harassment, family problems and financial stress. The employee works as a senior clerk in the administration department. Police said his statement will be recorded once he regains consciousness.
