Bokaro: Railway officials were left stunned on Saturday after the Ranchi-bound Janshatabdi Express arrived at Bokaro station with the decapitated head of an unidentified woman, believed to be aged around 50 years, lodged above the cattle guard at the front of the locomotive.A new crew took charge of the train (No. 12365) at Gomoh station. They noticed a strong, putrefying smell inside the locomotive but could not initially identify its source.“Since the smell persisted, the crew searched the locomotive again after reaching Bokaro. During an inspection outside the engine, they found a severed head lodged in the gap above the cattle guard near the coupler,” said Vikas Kumar, senior divisional commercial manager of Adra railway division.Teams from the Railway Protection Force (RPF) and Govt Railway Police (GRP) rushed to the station and recovered the head.RPF Adra senior commandant Om Prakash Mohanty said, “After receiving information about the foul smell, RPF and GRP teams inspected the engine. A severed head was found lodged in a gap near the cattle guard at the front of the locomotive. How it reached there, who placed it there and the identity of the woman are being investigated.”The incident delayed the train by nearly an hour. It departed Bokaro at 12.35 pm. Police suspect murder and have launched an investigation.
