Coimbatore: Panic gripped several govt establishments in the city on Monday morning after a series of emails warned of bombs at the district collectorate, post offices and passport offices. The emails, sent during the early hours, prompted an immediate large-scale security sweep across the city. The threatening communication claimed that 15 RDX explosives filled with cyanide gas had been planted within the premises of these public offices. The sender warned that the devices would detonate within three hours and urged the immediate evacuation of “innocent people.”On being alerted, the city police swung into action, deploying the bomb detection and disposal squad (BDDS) along with K9 dog squads to the identified locations. Security personnel conducted an exhaustive room-by-room search at the district collectorate and other high-traffic zones, including the regional passport office and central post offices. After hours of intensive screening, officials confirmed that no suspicious objects or explosives were found. The threat was subsequently declared a hoax. Investigations are currently under way to trace the IP address of the sender.
