Kanpur: Seven people were injured late Sunday night after a clash erupted between hospital authorities and the family of a patient over allegations of medical negligence at a hospital in Kanpur’s Kalyanpur area.Police said five members of the patient’s family, including a relative, sub-inspector Balwan Singh, were injured, while two hospital staff members sustained head injuries. All the injured were sent to Barasirohi Community Health Centre for medical examination.The patient, Pranshu, son of farmer Amit Yadav from Kishanpur village in Kanpur Dehat’s Shivli police station area, had been admitted after a road accident on Tuesday when two motorcycles collided as he was heading to Shivli.Amit alleged that hospital operators Vipin and Navneet took a deposit of Rs 20,000 for treatment. However, Amit claimed that Pranshu did not receive proper treatment and his condition deteriorated late on Sunday evening. The hospital authorities advised them to shift him elsewhere. Doctors at another hospital declared him dead after examination.The family then returned to the hospital in Kalyanpur along with the body and demanded action against its operators and staff. An argument escalated into violence, with both sides allegedly pelting stones.Local residents alerted the police control room, after which the police arrived and pacified both sides. Police personnel were also deployed to restore order. The family continued its protest until late at night but dispersed after police assured them of action.Kalyanpur station in-charge Keshav Kumar Tiwari said police had received a complaint from the family and were taking appropriate action. The body was being sent for a post-mortem examination. Further action would be based on its report and facts emerging from the investigation.Pranshu got married to Nidhi, a Shivli resident, about four years ago, and the couple has a three-year-old daughter.
