Kanpur: A 28-year-old e-rickshaw driver died on Monday morning after allegedly being beaten with sticks and an iron pipe over a land dispute in Jurawarpur village of Kanpur Dehat, police said. A video of the alleged assault has surfaced.The assault occurred around 11.30pm on Sunday in Shivli police station area, about 30km from the district headquarters. The video shows three women and two men assaulting the deceased, Ramsanehi. One accused is seen tying a rope around his neck and dragging him after he was critically injured.Ramsanehi’s sister Rajni said that he had an old dispute with his relative Ramswaroop over a wall. She alleged that Ramswaroop and his wife Ramkumari, along with their daughters Tannu, Reena and Priya, and son Ankush, abused Ramsanehi before attacking him.The accused beat him for about half an hour, repeatedly striking his head and legs. Ramswaroop then allegedly tied a rope around his neck while the others continued the assault before dragging him for 50 metres and leaving him in a plot, said Rajni.Ramsanehi’s elderly father raised an alert and brought villagers to the scene, after which the accused fled. Police and villagers took Ramsanehi to Shivli CHC, where doctors administered primary treatment and referred him to Lala Lajpat Rai Hospital in Kanpur. He died around 5am on Monday.Ramsanehi’s wife Mamta was at her maternal home.Station house officer Amarendra Bahadur Singh said raids were being conducted to trace the accused. Police are examining the video.
