Mysuru: Mysuru district police arrested seven persons, including a schoolteacher, for a highway dacoity near Sindhuvallipura village in Nanjangud taluk on the Mysuru–Ooty Road. The gang allegedly rammed a Keralam-bound car and escaped with cash. Police recovered three cars worth Rs 49.5 lakh and Rs 11.5 lakh in cash.The arrested are Mohammed Harshad, 32, Sudhakar, 42, Junail Abid, 43, Nishamuddin, 30, Asif A, 31, Ubais, 35, and T.S. Sufail, 32. Three key accused from Kerala remain absconding.SP Mallikarjun Baladandi said the accused operated from Keralam and Tamil Nadu after learning that a Keralam-based engineer would be carrying a large sum of cash from Mysuru following a gold sale.On July 1, two Kozhikode residents sold gold at a jewellery shop on Ashoka Road and received Rs 85 lakh. As they drove back to Kerala with the cash, the accused, travelling in three Keralam-registered cars, tailed them.Near Sindhuvallipura, the gang deliberately rammed the traders’ vehicle, dragged them out and fled with the car and cash. Using CCTV footage, police identified 10 suspects and, following raids in Keralam and Tamil Nadu, arrested seven. The three absconding accused are also wanted in robbery cases in Kerala, police said.30 cases cracked in a weekSP Mallikarjun Baladandi said district police cracked 30 criminal cases, including a house burglary under Jayapura police limits, within a week. Police arrested 35 accused and recovered stolen property worth Rs 1.5 crore, including gold jewellery, vehicles and cash.In the Jayapura burglary case, police traced the accused through CCTV footage from a fuel station where he had stopped to refuel. Though the vehicle’s registration number was unclear, investigators used technology to identify the suspect. Rangegowda MV of Bengaluru was arrested and 498g of gold jewellery worth Rs 65.2 lakh recovered.Police said the accused had sold part of the stolen jewellery to goldsmiths in Hassan. The arrest helped crack eight house burglary cases registered at Jayapura, Hunsur Rural, Ilavala, Mysuru South, Bannur and Saligrama police stations. Rangegowda has 17 previous criminal cases registered in Bengaluru, Mandya, Kolar, Chikkamagaluru and Hassan districts.Police also solved several theft cases by arresting suspects involved in house burglaries and vehicle thefts in Bylakuppe, Hunsur, KR Nagar, Mysuru South, Saligrama, Varuna, Bettadapura and Nanjangud. Recovered items include gold jewellery, cash, motorcycles, a washing machine and a refrigerator.“The recovered property will be returned to the owners soon,” the SP said.
