Lucknow: Seven persons were arrested on Saturday for the killing of a man over a wastewater drainage dispute in the Gosaiganj area, police said. The arrests followed a joint operation by Gosaiganj police and the Southern Zone Surveillance Cell after a manhunt was launched in the case.Police said the violence was triggered by a long-running conflict over wastewater being discharged from a drain near the victim’s house in Rasoolpur Tikniyamau village. Tensions allegedly escalated when the victim, Azad, removed the handle of a hand pump, leading to a confrontation between two groups.Azad was assaulted during the clash and suffered serious injuries, police said. His wife alleged that she, their son Pradeep and Azad’s brother Sarju were also attacked when they tried to intervene. Azad later died while undergoing treatment, after which police registered a murder case under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.DCP (South) Mohammad Mushtaq formed four teams and assigned the Southern Zone Surveillance Cell to trace those involved. Using technical surveillance and local inputs, police arrested Mohammad Haseeb (40), Abhishek (22), Chandrika Prasad (58), Sumit Kumar (20), Ramsuchit (45), Amit Kumar (19) and Rajkaran (40), all residents of the same village.Police recovered a steel pipe, an iron rod and five wooden sticks believed to have been used in the assault.
