Madikeri: The Muslim community in Shanivarasanthe town has introduced a new tradition during this year’s Ramzan fast. Community elders have decided to provide a separate room for women to visit the mosque and offer prayers.For the first time, during the month of Ramzan at the town’s Jamia Masjid, a dedicated space has been arranged exclusively for girls and women to pray. Eight days into the Ramzan fast, around 30 women and girls from the community have been visiting the mosque daily to offer prayers.In Shanivarasanthe, Hindus and Muslims celebrate festivals and temple anniversaries in harmony. Muslims participate in the annual celebrations of the village deities Sri Biralingeshwara–Prabala Bhairavi and the Parivar gods. Along with visiting the temple, the committee at the Jamia Masjid welcomes the procession on the main road and honours the temple committee’s office bearers and priests.Hindu residents expressed happiness that a separate space has now been provided for women to offer namaz at Jamia Masjid.
