Ahmedabad: International flyers from Ahmedabad now have the option of a smoother baggage check-in process, with the self baggage drop facility becoming operational at Terminal 2 (T2) of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International (SVPI) Airport. Emirates became the first airline to be empanelled under this initiative by the airport operator, offering the service to its boarding passengers. Other airlines are expected to be brought on board over the next few months. Self baggage drop was already implemented at the airport’s domestic Terminal 1 (T1). Currently at T2, an average of 15 to 20 Emirates passengers are opting for the facility daily, accounting for about 30 to 40 pieces of luggage. Sources at SVPI airport expect these numbers to grow steadily as more passengers adapt to the digital process. Flyers are required to enter their PNR details, scan passports and print baggage tags and boarding passes. After tagging their luggage, they can drop their bags at the designated points at Counters 21 and 22 in T2,” said a source. Once the tagged baggage is deposited, passengers can proceed towards security check.
