Chandrapur: The Nagpur Bench of the Bombay high court on Wednesday stayed the selection of six nominated members to the Chandrapur Municipal Corporation, putting on hold a key agenda item scheduled for the general body meeting on July 3.The interim order came while hearing a petition filed by corporators from MP Pratibha Dhanorkar’s camp. They challenged the move amid an unresolved dispute with faction aligned with MLA Vijay Wadettiwar over the Congress legislature party leadership in civic body.Agenda Item No. 22 relates to the appointment of six nominated members, effectively suspending selection process until further orders.Under the current political strength in the corporation, Congress is entitled to nominate three members, BJP two, and Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) one. The impending appointments had triggered intense lobbying among aspirants across party lines. The controversy stems from a leadership dispute within Congress. The Congress group leader Rajesh Adur was replaced by Surendra Adbale after approval from the divisional commissioner. Adur challenged the decision in HC, which stayed the commissioner’s order, allowing him to continue as the recognised group leader.Corporators backing Dhanorkar had urged the civic administration to remove the nomination proposal from the meeting agenda, arguing that the leadership dispute remained sub judice. After the administration declined, they approached the high court.
