Security tightened at Indo-Nepal border

Madhubani: Security has been tightened along the India-Nepal border in Madhubani district following protests and unrest triggered by recent communal violence across the border in Nepal, officials said.Tension has persisted in parts of Nepal after communal clashes broke out in Sunsari district of Koshi province last weekend. The violence prompted authorities to impose curfews, prohibitory orders and deploy additional security personnel in affected areas.At least three people were killed and several others injured in clashes and subsequent police firing following a dispute over the use of loudspeakers during celebrations by two religious communities on Sunday.On Friday, Nepalese authorities imposed an indefinite curfew in parts of Saptari district in Madhesh province, which shares a border with India.As a precautionary measure, police in Madhubani have stepped up vigil along the international border to maintain peace and prevent any spillover impact.According to officials, intensive surveillance, vehicle checks and search operations are being carried out on all major and alternate routes connecting the two countries. Additional security personnel have also been deployed at border police stations.Police have appealed to residents to cooperate with authorities, avoid spreading or acting on rumours and immediately report any suspicious activity to the nearest police station.
