Chandigarh: Residents of Sector 10 joined hands with civic officials Sunday for a Van Mahotsav plantation drive, turning the neighbourhood greener while reinforcing Chandigarh’s reputation as India’s garden city.Municipal commissioner Amit Kumar, who attended the event as chief guest, planted saplings along with UT SSP, area councillor Maheshinder Singh Sidhu, MC chief engineer Sanjay Arora and RWA members.Calling tree plantation a shared responsibility, Amit Kumar said protecting the environment requires year-round commitment, not just symbolic plantation drives. He urged residents, especially children and youth, to nurture the saplings and help preserve Chandigarh’s rich green legacy.The drive saw enthusiastic participation from residents and schoolchildren, who joined MC officials in planting saplings and spreading awareness about environmental conservation. Organisers said the event underscored the power of community action in building a cleaner, greener and more climate-resilient city.
