Ramgarh: In a boost to the power infrastructure of Jharkhand, the second 800 MW unit of Patratu Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Limited’s (PVUNL) super-thermal power plant in Ramgarh district began is commercial operations from Thursday.The first unit of the plant began commercial operations on November 5 last year. Notably, the PVUNL is a joint venture of state-run discom Jharkhand Bijli Vitran Nigam Limited (JBVNL) and NTPC.“With the successful declaration of commercial operation (COD) of Unit-2, PVUNL has achieved another significant milestone in strengthening the power generation capacity of Jharkhand and the nation,” PVUNL chief executive officer (CEO) A K Sehgal said.The project, whose foundation stone was laid by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2018, is being developed as a 4,000 MW supercritical thermal power plant in two phases. The first phase comprises three units of 800 MW each, of which two are now operational. Two additional units of 800 MW each are proposed in the second phase. Under the joint venture agreement signed in 2015, Jharkhand will receive 85% of the total power generated from the plant.Under the JV agreement signed in 2015, NTPC holds a 74% stake, while JBVNL has 26%.Sehgal said the development would ensure “reliable, affordable and sustainable power supply” to Jharkhand and other beneficiary states. He credited employees, engineers, workers and stakeholders for the timely completion of the unit and acknowledged support from the state govt, district administration and local communities.
