Nagpur: A 3MW solar power project at Tondakhairi in Kalmeshwar taluka was commissioned recently. The solar park, the second in the district, took the total solar generation capacity operational under MSEDCL’s Nagpur Rural Circle to 7MW.The project, developed under the ‘Mukhyamantri Saur Krushi Vahini Yojana 2.0′, will provide daytime power to around 1,105 farmers connected to the 33/11 kV Kalmeshwar substation. The project was inaugurated by Rajesh Naik, chief engineer, MSEDCL Nagpur Zone.The solar park has been developed using advanced solar technology. It is aimed at reducing farmers’ dependence on night-time electricity for irrigation, allowing them to carry out farm operations during the day.The first solar project under the scheme in Nagpur district was a 4MW facility commissioned near the Kachari Sawanga substation in Katol taluka. With the addition of the Tondakhairi project, the two facilities together have a generation capacity of 7 MW and are expected to benefit 2,079 farmers.The shift to is expected to ease difficulties faced by farmers who are forced to visit their fields at night for irrigation. Officials said regular daytime electricity would also allow farmers to better plan irrigation, fertiliser application and other farm activities.
