Prayagraj: Sleuths of the Special Task Force (Prayagraj unit) on Sunday arrested a wanted criminal, who was carrying a Rs 1 lakh reward and had been evading arrest for the past year in a case registered under the Gangsters Act. As many as 10 criminal cases were pending against Sunil Kumar Bharatiya alias Gunge, a resident of Mauaima.Acting on a specific input, an STF team nabbed Bharatiya near the Bela Kachar area while he was planning to escape from the city.Police said the arrested criminal had been active in loot and dacoity cases since 2019 and, along with his accomplices, had executed several such crimes. He had been in jail for several months before being released on bail in early 2025.Phaphamau police had invoked the Gangsters Act against him in 2025, following which he had been evading police action.
