Jaipur: The State Election Commission (SEC) has deferred mayoral and chairperson elections in four urban local bodies where repolling is scheduled Wednesday — Jaipur, Jodhpur and Kota municipal corporations and Suket Municipality in Kota district.State election commissioner Rajeshwar Singh told TOI that elections for mayoral, chairperson and deputy chairperson posts cannot be held on Sept 21 and 22, immediately after counting of votes on Sept 17, as there is insufficient time to complete the nomination process.“Candidates will need at least seven days to file nominations, followed by scrutiny and the withdrawal period,” Singh said.A senior SEC official said the elections in these four bodies are likely to be held on Sept 25 or later. The revised schedule will be issued after repolling and counting are completed.SEC will conduct repolling at 10 polling booths covering nine wards across the four bodies. Officials said results from all wards are necessary before elections to the mayoral or chairperson posts can be held, as any elected councillor is eligible to contest.Meanwhile, SEC issued a public notice at 7am Tuesday for chairperson elections in the remaining 305 urban local bodies. These polls will be held on Sept 21 and 22 as scheduled.“Immediately after repoll counting on Sept 17, we will issue the public notice for the chairperson and mayoral elections in these four bodies,” an SEC official said.
