New Delhi, With an aim to provide greater ease of investment to foreign investors, market regulator Sebi on Monday said Foreign Portfolio Investors (FPIs) investing exclusively in Indian government securities no longer need to furnish investor group details.

This aims to ease regulatory compliance for FPIs investing only in government securities.

The move comes after the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on June 5 withdrew the requirement for FPIs investing in government securities through the general route to comply with the prescribed concentration limit.

Consequently, Sebi said the requirement for an FPI investing only in government securities to identify its investor group is no longer relevant and is therefore being removed.

Accordingly, the regulator said, “FPIs investing only in government securities shall not be required to furnish investor group details.”

This framework will come into force with immediate effect.
