Sasaram: A district court in Sasaram (Rohtas) has questioned the basis on which a woman was made an accused in a criminal case and summoned the SDPO concerned to explain the circumstances of her implication.District Judge-IV Anil Kumar, while hearing the anticipatory bail plea of one Manorama Devi on Friday, observed that the case diary appeared to show that the police supervisory note alleging her involvement was prepared before the statement of the witness later cited to support the allegation.During the hearing, the investigating officer informed the court that Manorama Devi was implicated on the basis of a supervisory note prepared by SDPO Kumar Vaibhav. The officer added that a witness, Mahant Ram, had subsequently referred to her alleged involvement.However, the defence argued that Manorama Devi was not named in the FIR, the complainant’s subsequent statement, or any witness statements recorded initially. Counsel contended that no offence was made out against her.After examining the case diary, the court noted that the supervisory note was prepared on Nov 5, 2024, while the statement of witness Mahant Ram was recorded on Nov 15, 2024. The court observed that the supervisory note thus preceded the witness statement relied upon to support her alleged involvement.The judge also noted that the SDPO’s report did not clearly explain the basis for bringing Manorama Devi into the case and questioned the circumstances under which she was made an accused.Granting her protection from arrest, the court directed the Rohtas SP and SDPO Kumar Vaibhav to appear on September 21, 2026, and explain the basis and circumstances of her inclusion in the investigation. A copy of the order has also been sent to the Rohtas SP.
