Ludhiana: Police suspect an insider was involved in the murder of a 52-year-old lawyer and school operator who was found dead in his city home early on Monday. The advocate who also ran a middle school from his property was found on the ground floor of his house with his throat slit. Police were alerted at about 1.30am. The man’s 15-year-old son told investigators that two masked intruders had found his father and him asleep on the first floor, assaulted them, and killed the house owner. The teenager claimed the intruders had then forced him to help move his father’s body downstairs. However, investigators have raised significant doubts about the timeline and physical evidence on the scene.Assistant commissioner of police Inderjit Singh Boparai said the circumstances were “highly suspicious”, noting there were “no signs of forced entry anywhere in the home”.“The body was brought downstairs, even though the man was murdered on the first floor,” Boparai said. “There was no purpose for doing so, unless someone wanted to dispose of the body. We are probing the case from all angles and we suspect the involvement of an insider.”The school operator’s wife was in Bhopal appearing for a law degree examination at the time of the attack. Police have deferred the autopsy until she returns.Investigators confirmed this was the lawyer’s second marriage. Police have registered a murder case against unidentified suspects while their investigation continues.
