Ahmedabad: A case of fee irregularities has come to light at St Ann’s School in Bopal, prompting action from education authorities after parents alleged that the institution was charging fees higher than those approved by the Fee Regulatory Committee (FRC).An inquiry conducted by officials confirmed that the school had violated prescribed norms by collecting excess fees from students. Acting on the findings, the District Primary Education Officer (DPEO) has directed the school to refund the additional amount within two days.Officials said the refund must be calculated year-wise and paid to parents through cheques. The school has also been instructed to submit verified proof of the refunds to the authorities. Failure to comply will invite recovery proceedings under revenue laws, the order stated. The issue first came to light after complaints from parents, following which the Taluka Primary Education Officer carried out a preliminary inquiry and later conducted an on-site inspection. Authorities also held a meeting with parents, during which fee receipts were collected and scrutinised.“The documents clearly established that the school had overcharged students,” an official said, adding that financial records maintained by the institution were also found to be irregular.
