Hyderabad: Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) chairman and managing director, Buddhaprakash Jyoti, said the coal company would ensure adequate coal supply to thermal power stations to meet the requirements of Telangana power generation companies, even though coal production may face certain challenges during the monsoon season.TG Genco CMD Harish met SCCL CMD Buddhaprakash Jyoti at Singareni Bhavan on Friday to review coal supply arrangements for thermal power stations. They also discussed measures to ensure uninterrupted power generation at all thermal plants, including the Yadadri Thermal Power Station, by maintaining adequate stocks of quality coal throughout the monsoon. The SCCL CMD said that nearly 93% of Singareni’s coal production comes from open-cast mines, and heavy rainfall often causes significant disruptions to coal production at these mines. However, keeping the state’s power requirements in view, SCCL has been implementing well-planned measures to ensure uninterrupted coal supplies to thermal power stations. He said several precautionary measures had already been undertaken at all open-cast mines to minimise the impact of the monsoon. The meeting also reviewed in detail the coal stock position and the quantity of coal required to be supplied to thermal power plants during the rainy season.SCCL supplies nearly 28 million tonnes of coal annually to thermal power stations in Telangana. SCCL directors informed that the company is currently supplying about 60,000 to 70,000 tonnes of coal per day to the state’s thermal power plants. The CMD said there should be no disruption to Telangana’s power requirements and stressed that no compromise should be made in maintaining coal quality.
