Under the revised policy, agricultural workers will be provided work for an extended period during the lean season

Patna: Amid scanty rainfall and drought-like conditions in Bihar, the govt has amended provisions under the VB-G-RAM G programme to ensure employment for job-card holders facing a livelihood crisis.Under the revised policy, agricultural workers will be provided work for an extended period during the lean season. Normally, workers under the scheme are not given employment during the monsoon as they remain engaged in kharif-related activities. The lean period will begin on Aug 10 in Sheikhpura, Munger, Lakhisarai, Jamui, Bhagalpur and Banka, while it will start on Aug 9 in 11 districts, including Patna, Gaya, Nalanda, Bhojpur and Rohtas.Rural development minister Shrawan Kumar said the changes had been made in view of poor rainfall and the anticipated impact of El Niño. He directed district authorities to register more workers and ensure adequate employment opportunities.“In this crisis situation, there should be no lack of work for any poor family,” Kumar said.
