Sawan Putrada Ekadashi in 2026 will be celebrated on Sunday, the 23rd of August. This holy fast is observed in the Shukla Paksha of the month of Sawan. It is considered to be of great importance for the welfare of the family, prosperity of children and peace of the household, and is devoted to Lord Vishnu. The person who gives a child is referred to as “Putrada”. That is why this vrat is observed with faith by many couples. Sawan Putrada Ekadashi 2026 Date and Tithi
Shravana Putrada Ekadashi will be observed on Sunday, 23 August 2026. Ekadashi Tithi will commence at 02:00 AM on August 23, 2026, and will end at 04:18 AM on August 24, 2026. The Parana, or fast-breaking time, is scheduled for Monday, August 24, 2026, from 1:41 PM to 4:16 PM. Hari Vasara ends at 10:49 AM on the day of Parana. Devotees should break the fast only after the Hari Vasara is over.
Sawan Putrada Ekadashi Puja Vidhi
Early morning wake up and bath. Make a resolve and wear clean clothes for the fast. Place an idol or image of Lord Vishnu in the puja area. Light a diya, offer yellow flowers, tulsi leaves, fruits, sweets, incense and water. You can also give Panchamrit if available. During the puja, chanting “Om Namo Bhagavate Vasudevaya”. Listen or read Sawan Putrada Ekadashi Vrat Katha. Further, scores of devotees chant the Vishnu Sahasranama. Maintain a calm mental state and avoid harsh language, gossip, lies, or anger. On Ekadashi, devotees abstain from eating rice, grains, pulses, onion, garlic, non-vegetarian food and alcohol; some fast completely, while others eat fruits, milk and water.
Sawan Putrada Ekadashi Vrat Katha
According to the popular vrat katha, there was a king named Mahijit. He was good and just, but he had no children. It tore him up. The king called for help from the wise sages. The sages said that in a previous birth, he had stopped a cow and her calf from drinking when they were thirsty. He was suffering child-related sorrow from this mistake. The sages advised him to observe Shravana Putrada Ekadashi Vrat with devotion. The king observed the fast and prayed to Lord Vishnu. The fast blessed him with a son. Sawan Putrada Ekadashi is believed to be a fast that brings blessings for children, peace, family happiness, and relief from past karmic issues.
