Buxar: A long-running dispute over around 1.5 bighas of agricultural land turned fatal in Buxar district on Thursday when Kukudha panchayat sarpanch Subhash Singh (55) was allegedly beaten to death during a clash in Chilbila village under Itadhi police station. His two sons, Akhilesh Singh and Venkatesh Singh, sustained serious injuries.Following the killing, family members and villagers staged a protest outside Buxar Sadar Hospital, placing the body at the main gate and blocking the Buxar-Chausa road. They demanded the immediate arrest of the accused.According to villagers, the two sides had been locked in a dispute over the land for several years. On Thursday, members of the rival group allegedly reached the plot with a tractor to plough the field. Subhash, who arrived on a motorcycle after learning about it, objected to the move. His sons joined him shortly afterwards.An argument soon escalated into violence. The family alleged that 15 to 20 people armed with sticks attacked the three men. Subhash suffered critical injuries and collapsed in the field, while his sons were seriously hurt.Police reached the spot and shifted the injured to Buxar Sadar Hospital, where doctors declared Subhash dead. Akhilesh and Venkatesh are undergoing treatment.Akhilesh claimed that the disputed land had been in his family’s lawful possession and that land revenue receipts had been updated for the 2026–27 financial year. He alleged that despite earlier instructions barring both sides from entering the plot, members of the rival faction continued to visit the site.Police sent the body for post-mortem examination and said raids were underway to arrest those involved. Itadhi SHO Sonu Kumar said legal action would be initiated after the victim’s family lodged a formal complaint.
