Ahmedabad: The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) on Thursday carried out a demolition drive to clear encroachments along both sides of the national highway stretch from Vishala Circle to Sarkhej, removing a total of 32 structures. The action included the demolition of 23 residential buildings and nine commercial units, officials said. The clearance drive is part of preparations for the elevated corridor being constructed by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) between Sarkhej and Vishala Circle. The proposed corridor aims to ease traffic congestion and streamline vehicular movement on the busy stretch in the city.AMC officials said residents and occupants had been issued notices and were given a two-month window to voluntarily remove the structures. However, as the occupants failed to comply within the stipulated period, the civic body proceeded with the demolition on Thursday.
