Bhubaneswar: A 2015-batch IPS officer, Saravana Vivek M, took over as the DCP of Bhubaneswar on Friday.Soon after assuming office, Saravana, who served as the Berhampur superintendent of police before his latest posting, outlined a strategy on intelligence-led policing, strong teamwork and community engagement.“We will work as a team to curb and prevent crimes. The directions of the DGP and police commissioner regarding the special enforcement drive ahead of the upcoming festive season will be implemented in letter and spirit,” Saravana told reporters.Saravana said intelligence-based operations would be intensified to identify habitual offenders and prevent criminal activities before they occur.Saravana underscored that street crimes, anti-social activities and incidents of public disorder would be dealt with firmly. Women’s safety will remain one of our top priorities, he said.The new DCP also stressed the importance of proactive policing and community engagement to enhance public confidence in the police. He indicated that efforts would be made to strengthen intelligence gathering, improve response mechanisms and ensure greater visibility of police personnel across the city.His appointment comes at a time when crime in Bhubaneswar witnessed a 43% rise during the first half of 2026, with the registration of 9,934 cases, compared to 6,968 cases during the corresponding period in 2025.
