Bhubaneswar: The govt on Monday suspended Sarankul police station’s former inspector-in-charge (IIC), Sujit Kumar Das, days after he was shunted following the registration of a rape case against him.“A disciplinary proceeding has been contemplated against the ex-IIC for gross misconduct and dereliction of duty. In the interest of public service, he has been placed under suspension with immediate effect,” read the order issued by DGP Y B Khurania. The directive stated that Das will remain under the disciplinary control of the IGP (central range).Trouble began after a woman lodged a rape complaint against Das on June 17. The complainant, in her 40s, who was earlier arrested in an assault case by the Sarankul police and is now out on bail, alleged she had approached the station months ago seeking help in a land dispute. Instead of assistance, she claimed she was sexually exploited by Das.
