Patna: A newly married couple from Saran died by suicide on Sunday, the husband in Chennai and his wife at their home in Rasulpur under Amnaur police station area of Saran district, police said. The couple had married around eight to nine months ago.An argument reportedly took place between the husband and wife over phone on Saturday evening. Family members intervened and the matter was resolved at that time. On Sunday morning, the husband died by suicide in Chennai. Around the same time, his wife also died by suicide at her home in Rasulpur, police said.The deceased were identified as 25-year-old Bablu Kumar Mahto of Rasulpur and his 23-year-old wife, Sapna Kumari.According to the family, Bablu had moved to Chennai around five months ago to work as a painter and worker to support his family. Sapna stayed at their home in Rasulpur with his elderly parents. She was originally from Machhagara village in Baniyapur and had returned to her in-laws’ house two days ago after celebrating Raksha Bandhan at her parental home.Amnaur SHO Vimlesh Kumar said, “On Sunday morning, the family members were informed that Bablu died by suicide by hanging himself in Chennai. After hearing the news, Sapna also died by suicide at her home by hanging herself.”Sapna’s mother-in-law, Sita Devi, had gone to work in the field. When she returned, she found the room locked from inside and raised an alarm. Villagers then broke open the door and found Sapna.Police sent Sapna’s body to Chhapra Sadar Hospital for postmortem. Family members were making efforts to bring Bablu’s body from Chennai.The SHO said preliminary investigation suggested domestic discord as a possible reason for the deaths and added that police were investigating the matter from all angles.
