T’puram: The women and child development department will install sanitary napkin vending machines and incinerators at public places as part of an initiative aimed at making travel more convenient for women and girls. The first such machine will come up at KSRTC bus terminal at Thampanoor.The ‘WOMN – Women on the Move & Menstrual Needs’ project is being implemented under the state govt’s 100-Day Action Plan. The initiative will cover major tourist destinations, KSRTC terminals and depots, and other public places across the state. The project at the KSRTC bus terminal will be inaugurated on Tuesday by women and child development minister Bindu Krishna.Under the project, women and girls will be able to purchase sanitary napkins at affordable rates while travelling. Facilities will also be provided for an environmentally friendly disposal of used sanitary products.The department said the initiative is aimed at addressing menstrual hygiene needs during travel and ensuring that women have easier access to essential menstrual products in public spaces.
