Pune: Cybercrooks duped a Sangvi resident of Rs 37.25 lakh by promising him 30% returns on his investments in the stock market through their firm between Jan and March.The victim, who is a private company employee, filed an online complaint. After the preliminary investigations, a case was registered with the Sangvi police on Tuesday.An officer from the Sangvi police said the victim came into contact with the crooks through a social media platform in Jan.“A woman contacted him through a video call and claimed that she was calling from a securities company. She assured good returns on his investments in the stock market,” the officer said.He said the woman shared two links with the victim and told him to transfer the amounts by using those links.The victim transferred Rs 37.25 lakh between Jan and March 30. The victim was told that he earned a profit of Rs 1.81 crore on his investments.The victim, however, was not able to withdraw any money. He then realised that he was being duped. “We have sought the details of the transactions from his bank. Our investigations are on,” he said.
