Sandy Liang Does Precious Practicality for Spring 2027

A pastel castle playhouse fit for a Polly Pocket-sized princess greeted guests at Sandy Liang’s Spring 2027 runway show on Sunday afternoon. While the candy-colored fortress felt right at home for the girlhood-inspired label, this season’s collection is taking Sandy Liang’s fantasy world into a new realm: the great outdoors.

For Spring 2027, Sandy Liang welcomes a sense of play through a soccer-inspired trompe l’oeil skirt, dolphin-print funnel-neck jackets and ruffled track pants. Per the show notes written by journalist Nicolaia Rips, Liang explores “the dream of functionality, the excitement of getting dolled up to run around and the joys of modularity.” Indeed, the collection feels like a whimsical take on the childhood joy of running around outside until the streetlights came on.

It incorporates elements of gorp-core — an aesthetic that merges outdoor utility with streetwear — via tactical fanny packs covered in pockets and backpack-inspired tops. Of course, this softened take on sport utility is rife with Sandy Liang signatures (otherwise known as “princess details”), including ruffles upon ruffles, oversized ribbons and bow-adorned…everything. Lace detailing, which shows up in midi-length round skirts and a mixed-media sweatshirt, was finished with clear paillettes to add a touch of shimmer as the garments move. Ballerina-esque tutus, polka-dot bra tops, sequined knee-length skirts and mini dresses round out the collection.

Accompanying the Sandy Liang-ified sportswear is a romantic accessories assortment of wide headbands and pocket-embellished handbags. The nostalgic ode to play even extends to footwear via slip-on mules reminiscent of plastic play heels, white patent-leather ballet wedges and bunny flats (with gemstone eyes!).

“It’s technical dressing filtered through fantasy, practicality made precious, for the girl who lives in a fairytale, whose home team is Versailles,” the show notes read.
