Dauphinette's Spring 2027 Show Finds Beauty in Returning to Itself

On Saturday night, Dauphinette hosted its Spring 2027 show inside Genesis House, marking a return for the brand as an alum of the CFDA x Genesis House AAPI Design + Innovation Grant it won in 2025. For inspiration, Founder and Designer Olivia Cheng turned to the idea of the mondegreen — a phrase so often misheard that the mishearing takes on a life of its own. “A mondegreen is a lyric, a sentence or a phrase that is written as one thing but misheard or misinterpreted as something else,” Cheng told Fashionista post-show.

In the collection notes, Cheng reflected heavily on the brand’s inception, framing the line as a memoir of the past, and wrote, “Lady Mondegreen feels like the inevitable long-format exploration of the between-worlds feeling…It’s all the trappings of day-one Dauphinette.”

Naturally, the brand’s signature bread bag made its appearance, tassels and all, alongside other familiar motifs: wandering beetles, structured drop-waist skirts, jewel-encrusted dresses and garments heavy with button embellishments.

But this season, Dauphinette’s flower signature reappeared in more evolved forms: in painted flowers brushed on through impasto techniques and a brand-new fabric unveiled for the first time.

“We developed a new pattern called Florganza,” Cheng said of the label’s newest textile innovation. “I’ve been working with flowers for a long time, and finally found a way to make the fabric, in a way that could include full pressed flowers, and a lot of them, but also still be pleated or manipulated as pretty much any other textile without cracking the flowers or breaking them.”

“Florganza,” used in three looks in the collection, infused pressed flowers between semi-transparent, opaque silk. According to the collection’s bill of materials, the process took 44 hours of hand-placing flowers sourced from local growers and the garden of Cheng’s mother.

For this collection, Cheng said the prominent difference from seasons past was restraint and discipline. “I’m not very traditional, and so I feel that this time we took more of an intentional approach, not just with each individual garment, but of the presentation and collection as a whole.”
