Patna: CM Samrat Choudhary on Friday criticised Congress MP and leader of opposition in Lok Saba, Rahul Gandhi, for his remarks on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, terming them inappropriate and demanding a public apology.In a post on X, Choudhary said Gandhi’s conduct was unbecoming of someone holding a constitutional position and undermined democratic discourse.“The use of such derogatory and unbecoming language against Prime Minister Narendra Modi is unacceptable in any democratic system. Differences may exist in politics, but one cannot compromise on decorum, language and democratic values. The country expects a public apology from you for this unbecoming conduct,” he wrote.Choudhary’s remarks came a day after Gandhi attacked the Modi govt’s foreign policy, arguing that diplomacy should be driven by national interests rather than personal rapport with world leaders.Addressing the Rachnatmak Congress National Convention in New Delhi, Gandhi said the govt’s responsibility was to safeguard the country’s interests and not focus on “hugging politicians”.He argued that reducing foreign policy to personal gestures and friendships with global leaders distorted the purpose of diplomacy. Recalling a childhood visit to the United States with former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, he said an Indian Prime Minister’s role on the global stage was to defend national interests, not cultivate personal friendships.“You aren’t just visiting a friend’s house. In this role, the Prime Minister of India doesn’t engage in mere friendship. Their job is to protect the country,” Gandhi said.
