Patna: CM Samrat Choudhary on Sunday called for stronger unity among the five NDA allies in Bihar, saying collective effort was essential for the state’s development.Addressing the Luv-Kush Pratibha Samman ceremony at Bapu Sabhagar in Patna, he said, “All five fingers are not equal, but when they come together to form a fist, it becomes a symbol of unity.”Choudhary said electoral success had shown the value of remaining together. In the 2010 assembly polls, he said, NDA partners contested jointly and won 206 of Bihar’s 243 seats. In 2020, “a little division” reduced the tally to 127. In the 2025 assembly polls, he said, all “Panch Pandav”, or five NDA allies, united again and secured more than 200 seats. He assured the gathering that he would continue working for Bihar’s growth while keeping the alliance united.The programme, organised by the Progressive Buddhijivi Association, highlighted solidarity among the Luv-Kush social bloc, comprising Kurmi and Kushwaha communities. Across Bihar and much of north India, members of these communities identify themselves as descendants of Luv and Kush, the twin sons of Lord Rama.Besides Choudhary, who belongs to the Kushwaha community, those present included health minister Nishant Kumar, Rashtriya Lok Morcha president Upendra Kushwaha, rural development minister Shravan Kumar, science and technical education minister Sheela Kumari, MLAs Pappu Verma and Ratnesh Kushwaha, and legislative council member Sanjay Kumar Singh alias Gandhi Ji.Choudhary announced that a Luv-Kush Park would be built in Valmiki Nagar at a cost of Rs 60 crore. According to Hindu mythology, Luv and Kush were born and raised in the forest ashram of Sage Valmiki, near present-day Valmiki Nagar.Choudhary said the foundation of Luv-Kush unity was laid in 1994 and had remained intact. He said the community was not against anyone and wanted to contribute to Bihar’s prosperity and national development while moving ahead with justice. After the Kurmi Chetna Rally and Kushwaha Sammelan in 1992-93, he said, both communities jointly organised the Luv-Kush Sammelan in 1994. This social unity, he added, later took political shape and helped parties associated with it.Choudhary said the present priority was to realise prime minister Narendra Modi’s vision of “Viksit Bharat” and former chief minister Nitish Kumar’s vision of “Samriddh Bihar”.Referring to the Luv-Kush legend, he said the twins defended Mata Sita’s honour even before Lord Rama, until Sita intervened to prevent a war between father and sons. He said their tradition also honoured Rama’s 14-year exile for propriety.
