Patna: Bihar govt and Centre will work in close coordination to curb infiltration, counterfeit currency, drug trafficking and other cross-border crimes along the sensitive India-Nepal border, CM Samrat Choudhary said here on Saturday after chairing a comprehensive high-level review meeting at the ‘Samvad’ hall in the Chief Minister’s Secretariat.The meeting focused extensively on border security, infrastructure management, law and order, and prevention of illegal activities. Union minister of state for home affairs Nityanand Rai and Bihar deputy CM Vijay Kumar Choudhary were also present.During the meeting, a detailed official presentation highlighted the pressing security challenges along the international boundary. Addressing the gathering, Choudhary emphasised that safeguarding national security remained the govt’s topmost priority and highest responsibility. He called for enhanced coordination and continuous monitoring among Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), state police forces and central investigative and intelligence agencies to strengthen border surveillance and check criminal elements effectively.In a bid to choke illegal financial networks operating in the region, Choudhary directed officials to rigorously identify suspicious financial transactions and fake bank accounts, ordering immediate legal action against offenders. The administration was also asked to take a strict stance on unauthorised structures. The Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) issued an official communique stating that district authorities must identify all unregistered religious places in border zones and deal with them in accordance with existing laws.To ensure seamless operations, district magistrates (DMs) and superintendents of police (SPs) in border districts have been instructed to hold mandatory monthly coordination meetings with central security agencies. Choudhary also stressed the need to strengthen the local information network in sensitive pockets, improve basic educational facilities for residents in border regions and ensure prompt action on any suspicious movements.The high-level meeting was attended by senior state officials, top police officers and central agency representatives, while DMs and SPs from border areas participated via video conferencing to formalise the security road map.
