Sambalpur: Security checks were intensified across the Sambalpur district court on Monday morning, with bomb squad teams, dog squads and metal detectors deployed even before proceedings began, following a bomb threat email received the previous night.Police also tightened access at the district court, SDJM court, SP office and nearby parking areas, allowing entry only after strict identity verification. Barricades were put up at Kacheri Chowk, and both gates of the court complex were placed under enhanced watch.
The stepped-up security followed an email, written in Odia, that landed in the official inbox of the court registry around 11 pm on Sunday, warning of a possible bomb attack on the court premises. Acting swiftly, police teams rushed to the spot and launched an extensive overnight search. The bomb disposal squad and K-9 unit combed multiple sections of the court complex through the night but found no suspicious object.Additional SP Srimanta Barik said security had been strengthened since Sunday night. “Efforts are underway to trace the sender of the threat mail and determine the motive behind it,” he said.As reported earlier, similar threat mails had come to courts twice earlier in recent days.
