Nagpur: Days after taking charge as Nagpur district president of the NCP (Sharadchandra Pawar), Salil Deshmukh dissolved the party’s district executive committee, signalling a sweeping organisational overhaul aimed at strengthening the party ahead of the upcoming local body elections.Salil, son of former home minister Anil Deshmukh, informed state president Shashikant Shinde of the decision through a formal letter, saying the move is part of a wider exercise to rebuild and energise the party organisation at the grassroots.As part of the restructuring, Deshmukh said he would tour every taluka in the district along with heads of the party’s frontal organisations to interact with workers and assess the organisational strength at the local level before constituting a new district executive.Making it clear that performance and commitment would be the sole criteria for appointments, Deshmukh said inactive office-bearers would be dropped from the revamped team.“Those who only want party posts but make no contribution to organisational work will be sidelined. The new executive will give priority to dedicated workers who have worked tirelessly for the party and remain connected with people at the grassroots,” he said.The restructuring comes as the Sharad Pawar-led NCP (SP) prepares for the next round of local self-govt elections and seeks to strengthen its organisational network across Nagpur district.Party leaders said the reorganisation is intended to replace the existing structure with a more active and result-oriented leadership while creating opportunities for younger and emerging workers. The decision has generated considerable interest among party cadres, with many viewing it as the beginning of a fresh organisational push under Deshmukh’s leadership.
