Salem: A woman was arrested on Tuesday, for murdering her husband at their home near Omalur in Salem district during the early hours of Tuesday and attempting to pass it off as a murder during robbery.Omalur police have identified the arrested as Sujithasri, 31, of Velagoundanur. She was married to V Boopathi, 45, a brick trader.Police said Boopathi was found dead in his car near Aattukkaranur cooperative society on Omalur-Sankari Road around 4am on Tuesday. “During inquiry, his wife initially told us that three unidentified men had attacked Boopathi with knives, killed him and fled with about 12 sovereigns of her gold jewellery,” said SM Shanmugam, Omalur station inspector.However, police intensified the investigation after Boopathi’s sister and other relatives questioned his wife’s version of events surrounding his death, on grounds that the couple were in the habit of quarrelling frequently.Meanwhile, investigators uncovered that Sujithasri was involved in an extramarital affair. When questioned further, she admitted to bludgeoning Boopathi to death at their home, and moving his body to the car, to fabricate a highway attack and robbery,” the inspector added.Police have registered a case and formed special teams to investigate further and determine if Sujithasri acted alone or if others were involved.
