SALEM: Salem Railway Division on Monday inaugurated a rail coach restaurant at Ayodhyapattinam railway station, furthering Railways’ initiative to introduce innovative dining spaces across the country. This is the second rail coach restaurant in the division after the launch of a similar facility at Coimbatore Junction railway station. The new restaurant, set up inside a refurbished rail coach, offers seating for 48 diners at a time and is equipped with airconditioning. It will function 24 hours a day, providing both locals and travellers with a convenient and distinctive dining option. The concept, introduced under private lease arrangements, is aimed at combining railway heritage with modern amenities while ensuring hygienic and affordable food services.Speaking at the inauguration, Salem Railway Division manager Panna Lal said, “Rail coach restaurants are not just about serving food; they are about creating an experience. People can relive the charm of train journeys while enjoying a comfortable dining atmosphere. We are confident that Ayodhyapattinam will welcome this initiative with the same enthusiasm as Coimbatore did.”He said the Railways’ goal was to modernize passenger amenities and make railway spaces more people friendly. “Dining inside a coach is a unique attraction, and we believe that it will become a popular spot for families, students and commuters alike,” he said.
