Mysuru: Karnataka State Commission for Safai Karmacharis member Shankara Ankanashettypura on Monday directed the officials of Mysuru City Corporation to step up awareness among people about the importance of segregating dry and wet waste at source. Such measures not only ease the work of pourakarmikas but also help in an effective scientific waste disposal mechanism.He was speaking at an interactive meeting with pourakarmikas held at Mysuru City Corporation in the city. Stressing on the importance of segregation at source, he said it helps in handling the waste effectively and scientifically. He promised to address disparity in wages to staff who are involved in waste management.Urging pourakarmikas to give importance to educating their children, he asked MCC officials to promote higher education by sanctioning funds under 24.1% earmarked for the welfare of SC/STs. He also assured all outsourced pourakarmikas and contractual workers that they would get houses and sites under different govt housing schemes.He cautioned that commission will take serious action on the complaints of pourakarmikas if they fail to get justice at their office level. MCC commissioner MK Savitha replied that the civic body has set up a single window cell to sort out the issues of pourakarmikas, which will be resolved at the health inspector, environmental engineer and additional deputy commissioner levels.
