Lucknow: Police investigation into Vivek Tiwari’s murder relied heavily on forensic reconstruction and scientific evidence to challenge constable Prashant Chaudhary’s claim that he fired in self-defence.The findings, incorporated into the chargesheet after examination by the SIT, reconstructed the events leading to the shooting.A key issue was whether Tiwari had attempted to run over Chaudhary. The Forensic Science Laboratory report found that the fatal shot was fired from about eight feet away, while the distance between the car and the police bike was around three feet. Investigators concluded that with the motorcycle positioned between the constable and the SUV, the possibility of Tiwari directly running over Chaudhary appeared unlikely.The SIT also examined Chaudhary’s position when the shot was fired. The bullet struck the windscreen about 4.7 feet above the ground and, after penetrating the glass, deflected downward by about 12 degrees before hitting Tiwari on the chin. Investigators said the downward trajectory indicated the shot was fired from an elevated position, contradicting suggestions that Chaudhary was lying on the road when the pistol discharged.Forensic examination also assessed the claim that the SUV hit the police motorcycle. While a mark on the motorcycle’s front wheel was consistent with contact from the SUV’s tyre, investigators found no major dent indicating a forceful collision. The SIT concluded the vehicle merely grazed the motorcycle while attempting to move away, rather than deliberately ramming it.
