Chandigarh: Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) on Thursday announced an intensive campaign programme for the 2027 Punjab assembly elections, with a door-to-door campaign from Oct 6 and a statewide bus yatra led by party president Sukhbir Singh Badal from Nov 10.Senior SAD functionary Daljit Singh Cheema said the door-to-door campaign would be launched by Badal from Attari and held simultaneously across all assembly constituencies to seek suggestions for the party’s election manifesto.SAD will release its manifesto on Nov 1, Punjab Day, Cheema said.He said Bathinda MP Harsimrat Kaur Badal would launch the second phase of the party’s anti-drug movement for women from Muktsar on Oct 5. The campaign, carrying the slogan “Maawan-Dheeyan di Lalkaar, Band Karo Nasha da Vyapar”, will reach households across the state, he said.Cheema said the party would also organise a “mammoth public rally” at Killi Chahlan village in Moga on Dec 8 to mark the birthday of former chief minister Parkash Singh Badal.The bus yatra, beginning from Talwandi Sabo on Nov 10, will be a mass-contact programme during which Sukhbir Badal will cover two to three assembly constituencies each day, Cheema said.The decisions were taken at a meeting of the party’s ‘halka incharges’ and observers chaired by Badal.Cheema also announced a 10-member lawyers’ committee to monitor what he described as “false, baseless and defamatory content” against the party and its leaders in the media and on social media platforms.Ends
