Sabrina Carpenter has issued an apology following backlash over comments she made during her recent Coachella performance, where she misidentified a traditional Arabic celebratory chant as yodeling.

The incident occurred during Carpenter’s headlining set at the Coachella, when a fan in the audience performed a Zaghrouta — a high-pitched ululation commonly heard at celebrations across the Middle East and North Africa. Carpenter, appearing confused, responded onstage by asking if the sound was yodeling and reacting critically to it. Clips of the moment quickly circulated online, with viewers criticising the singer for dismissing a culturally significant expression.
