Udupi: A 55-year-old rubber tapper died at Karkala Govt Hospital on Sunday, two days after he was allegedly bitten by an unidentified inspect while working at a rubber plantation at Alapalli near Mala village.The deceased, Surendran PA, a resident of Nellimattam in Kottamangalam taluk of Kerala, had been working as a rubber tapper at Jobish’s plantation for the past five years. According to his son Sreenath Surendran,23, Surendran was addicted to alcohol.Around 8am on Aug 28, Surendran was removing rubber sheet trays from a shed when he complained of being bitten by an unidentified insect on his left hand. As the pain increased, his co-worker Saju brought him to Karkala Govt Hospital around 7am on Aug 30 for treatment. Though the doctor administered first aid, Surendran did not respond to treatment and was declared dead.Karkala Rural police have registered an unnatural death report under Section 194 of the BNSS.
