Nagpur: The Regional Transport Office launched an enforcement campaign against illegal bike taxis operating in Nagpur, and took action against 20 people in the last two days, fining them Rs 10,000 each and cancelling their vehicle registrations for three months.According to the state home dept’s govt decision, an aggregator policy was issued and rules regarding this were determined. On July 4 last year, the dept had issued a circular implementing the Maharashtra Bike Taxi Rules.

Companies providing two-wheeler and four-wheeler passenger services through mobile applications must comply with these rules, and it is mandatory to obtain an ‘operator licence’ from the transport dept. No one in Nagpur was issued licences yet.Despite this, it came to light that illegal bike taxis were being operated by a couple of cab aggregators. Therefore, action was taken by the RTO under the Motor Vehicle Act against 11 bike taxi drivers on Monday and 9 on Tuesday.
