Chennai: Applications for admissions under the Right to Education (RTE) Act for 2026-27 will begin on Monday and education department has instructed schools to open the online application window.Parents can apply online at rte.tnschools.gov.in between April 20 and May 18. Parents unable to apply online may visit the respective schools or education offices, where internet, computers and scanners have been arranged for applications, a release said.Further, schools receiving applications directly must give parents an acknowledgement receipt and upload them onto the EMIS portal themselves or submit them for online entry at designated education offices. The department commenced the process on April 2, asking schools to calculate the number of seats available per school under the Act and publish them online by April 15.The final list, after applications are scrutinized, will be released on May 20 and admissions will be made through draw of lots on May 22. “Schools have been asked to display a 6 x 10 ft flex board with complete admission details at the main entrance and public places. There will be at least 70,000 admissions under the Act this year,” said federation of private schools association president M Arumugam.
