Varanasi: The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) will celebrate the 650th Ravidas Jayanti in a grand style when Uttar Pradesh becomes poll-bound in 2027.With the number of its ‘shakhas’ reaching close to 3,000 in 27 organisational districts in the Kashi region unit, RSS also decided to divide this unit into Kashi and Prayagraj units.Providing details of the decision taken at the three-day Akhil Bharatiya Pratinidhi Sabha held at Samalakha in Haryana, RSS Kashi region unit’s Prant Karyavah Murli Pal and Prant Prachar Pramukh Murarji Tripathi said the organisation will give reverential tribute to Sant Ravidas on the occasion of his 650th birth anniversary, who incarnated on the land of Kashi. The Akhil Bharatiya Pratinidhi Sabha has planned a series of events for it, they added. From 2027, they said, 85 ‘sambhags’ will come into existence across the country in place of the 46 ‘prant’ (region) structure, they said, adding that Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand will be known as one Kshetra. Under this change, the existing Kashi Prant (regional unit), which has 27 organisational districts from the sangh’s perspective, will be divided into two ‘sambhags’ — Kashi and Prayagraj. At last year’s Pratinidhi Sabha, they said, there were 83,129 ‘shakhas’ in the country. This year, 6,000 new ‘shakhas’ were started, taking the total to 88,989, they said.
